Weekend Review

August 18, 2010

The new season has just started and didn't it start with a bang. The holders certainly gave notice that it will take something extraordinary from the other teams if they are going to be beaten. Man U also had a great start. The disappointment for the weekend were definitely Manchester City and Arsenal. How is it possible that a team that cost gazillions play like a bunch of amateurs. They could hardly string a pass together. Tevez and Villa were like 2 headless chickens running around. Even if I buy the argument that they would need a couple of months to gel, but seriously you would expect more from Mancini's boys.

This also bring me to the other disappointment of the weekend, Arsenal. Before the match, Arsene Wenger spoke about the need to start strong and how this is going to be a breakthrough year for his boys. From he display at Anfield, I feel this is going to be another long season ahead for the suffering fans. The team would tempt the fans with an oh-so-close attempt at capturing the title but alas, fall short again. Please Arsene, get a shrink and sort out the team. Talent in abundance but mentally fragile like a twig.

The surprise of the weekend was definitely newcomers Blackpool. They probably be another “Hull” and start strong this season and hopefully can gain enough points during this peroid to carry them when they inevitably fall later in the season. Much will depend on Ian Holloway's ability to motivate his team  especially when he bring his side to the Emirates next week. Win that and they would have the momentum. Lose big and they might be in trouble.
