Stoke and Birmingham make major moves on transfer deadline day

Stoke and Birmingham made last minute transfer deals literally minutes before the transfer window closed with each bringing in 3 players to help strengthen their squad. Stoke, who are winless so far this season, signed Eidur Gudjohnnsen, Jermaine Pennant and David Wilson while Alex McLeish played the transfer market well and brought in Alex Hleb and Martin Jiranek. Liverpool were also very active at the last minute working on not less than 4 deals but as at the time of writing only Paul Konchelsky's move to Anfield has been confirmed. Carlton Cole was rumored to have also move to Liverpool but it seems that the move has fallen through. Also staying at Liverpool will be Ryan Babel and Lucas, both who were linked with clubs throughout the summer. Although they are still reports of more transfers coming in, what is most noticeable this year is that the Top 3 clubs in the country, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have all stayed quiet.
