CIty 3 - Liverpool 0

No Balotelli, No Silva, No Boateng, No Kolarov, Adebayor, Given, Jo all on the bench and City still managed to whip Liverpool 3-0 at the Eastland yesterday. A brace by captain Tevez followed the opener by Gareth Barry gave Roberto Mancini a deserved opening home win to ease some pressure in front of his Middle Eastern employers.

City played well and the combination of Adam Johnson and James Milner and Tevez create problems for the Liverpool defense throughout the night. Johnson in particular was definitely the Man of the Match for me. He was quick, energetic with dribbling skills not seen for an English winger in a long time. He could really be the left sided player that national side have not had. Two problems with this though, one he likes to play on the right side of midfield and cut in to his left foot and two, if he could maintain his playing time in this expensively assembled squad.

This line-up worked very well for City but I don't think we would see the same line-up in the next match. I believe the embarrassment array of superstars in the City bench might actually be the downfall of their own making.

Even in the heydays of the Madrid Galaticos and Chelsea's spending spree under Avramovich, there were not as many stars as there are in the City camp right now.

Who's he gonna play as the point man upfront? Balotelli or Tevez or can they play together? Who isgonna play at the wings,  Milner or Silva or Johnson or Philips? What about the midfield; Barry, Toure, De Jong, and Vieira? Well I guess squad rotation would take a new meaning in City for the coming season and judging by the combustible characters in the locker, this might get really interesting.

Having said that, we should spare a thought for Liverpool. The former kingpins of the League has fallen on hard times and I really don't see how they can recover unless significant investment is put into getting players. They are already bare bones as it is and they would probably lose Mascherano and possible Kuyt by the close of the transfer season. If that happens, I'm afraid the Reds will suffer another season of mediocrity.
